Explore NZ Motorhomes would like to welcome you and thank-you for choosing to share your holiday with us. This is the more formal side of the business, where we go through the conditions and legal aspects of hiring a Motorhome. This will ensure that we are on the same page and every one will know where they stand and what is expected of them. Please ask at any stage if you are unsure of anything and we will be only too glad to help.
HIRE PERIOD:
A one way fee will apply should you choose NOT to return your vehicle to Christchurch. This fee will vary, depending on location and can be discussed at booking time.
If after the commencement of your hire, you wish to extend your stay, please phone us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
If a vehicle is returned early there can be no refund unfortunately.
DIESEL TAX - ROAD USER CHARGES:
All our vehicles run on diesel. Road user charges and-or diesel tax and is our responsibility.
DRIVERS LICENCES:
All drivers must be over 21 years of age and hold a current drivers licence. New Zealand will recognise drivers licences from your country of origin or an international drivers permit. Any person wishing to drive the vehicle must produce a licence at time of pick up. The licence details will be recorded and only those valid drivers will be covered in the insurance contract included with the rental.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS:
While all our vehicles may be driven on legal formed roads, it is important for the hirer to note that ALL INSURANCE PROTECTION WILL BE NEGATED should the hirer/driver take the vehicle onto the listed roads below. This means they will be responsible for any loss or damage whilst on these roads.
- Ninety Mile Beach Northland
- Colville Township to Port Jackson Coromandel
- Skippers Road Queenstown
- Ball Hut Road Mt Cook
We will show you clearly on a map where these areas are, but if you are unsure please ask. Should any damage occur whilst in a restricted area the hirer will be liable for loss and time vehicle is unavailable for hire.
REPAIRS AND BREAKDOWNS.
All our vehicles are well maintained and serviced regularly. However if something minor needs repairing, under $100.00, then you may do so and we will reimburse you upon presentation of receipt. Any repairs over $100.00 require prior approval. We will then endeavour to rectify the problem with as little disruption to your holiday as possible. All our vehicles are AA Roadside Assistance Registered. Should you run out of diesel, lock yourself out of your vehicle, get a flat battery or any other problem, call the AA on 0800 500 222 on the mobile provided and they will come and assist you, free of charge!
PETS:
We regret because of Health and Safety regulations, NO pets are allowed in our vehicles.
INTERISLAND FERRY:
If you are travelling between the North and South Islands, you will in all probability, be taking your Motorhome with you. If you have not already decided and booked your ferry crossing, we recommend you do so as soon as possible. During School Holidays and at peak time, delays can occur as space is limited. The cost for the Interisland Ferry is as follows:

VEHICLE SECURITY DEPOSIT:
A vehicle security deposit is required at the time of vehicle pick up, and can be paid in either Cash, Travellers Cheque or a Credit Card. This security deposit covers; Insurance Excess for damage to the vehicle, third party or property damage, and a bond which is refundable provided the vehicle is returned to the correct location, on time, refuelled, (both diesel and LPG gas bottle), and is in reasonable condition.
INSURANCES:
If you have bought Travel Insurance and any vehicle excess/deductible extension from your travel agent, that insurance, gives you the ability to recover any excess or deductible invoice or receipt to produce to your travel insurance company once you have returned home. All vehicles are fully insured for damage to the vehicle or to the property of a third party. The hirer is responsible for the first $2,500 (excess) of the cost to third party property or to the rented vehicle including windscreen and tyre damage, towing or recovery cost and consequential loss resulting from an accident, fire, theft or break in.
THIS EXCESS APPLIES TO EACH CLAIM, NOT PER RENTAL
In the first instance, the excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed or the accident is reported. Not at the completion of the rental. The insurance excess will be refunded once the liability for the accident is clearly identified as being the responsibility of the third party. Any monies remaining after the total costs of the accident, including the damage to our vehicle, third party property and the consequential loss incurred by Explore NZ Motorhomes has been assessed, will be immediately refunded to the hirer.
Explore NZ Motorhomes accepts no responsibility for any loss incurred by the hirer as a result of exchange rate fluctuations and/or charges imposed by credit card companies, if a credit card is used for payment of any charges, vehicle security deposits or bonds. Please be aware that refunds may take up to 20 business days before they appear in your account. We will endeavour to get these refunds to you in the quickest time possible.
BOND:
A $2500 bond is required on all
hires. This is the excess payable on all accidents and covers
third party insurance. Should you have an accident, this
bond will be used to pay the excess. This will be refunded
upon the satisfactory return of the vehicle as explained
previously. Damage of windscreens, tyres and the cost of
puncture repairs is the responsibility of the hirer. If a
tyre replacement is necessary, our preferred brand should be
used.
BOND WAIVER FEE:
This is not an Insurance. To
reduce the bond to nil a $20 fee can be added to your daily
tariff.
WINDSCREEN DAMAGE WAIVER
The cost of damages windscreens can be reduced to nil ($0.00) by paying a one off fee of $20.00. This option is only available to those taking Option Two or Three and is recommended, as the cost of replacing a windscreen in one our vehicles is $730.00!

PAYMENT:
Acceptable forms of payment are Cash, Travellers Cheques in New Zealand Dollars, MasterCard or Visa.
SUPERMARKETS:
Our friendly staff that show you around your home can also inform you of the most convenient supermarket to stock up on supplies.
ROAD MAPS AND DIRECTIONS:
New Zealand roads are well sign posted and all major destinations clearly marked. We will provide you with maps and mark on them suggested routes and also the holiday parks and camp ground guides. As you will soon find out, we are a friendly nation, and should you find yourself lost in this beautiful country of ours do not hesitate to ask for directions.
PICKING UP YOUR VEHICLE:
Everyone's situation will be different but some things remain the same. When you pick up your vehicle and one of our friendly staff show you how to get the most from your "home" you will also be asked to inspect the vehicle and complete a Vehicle Condition Report. This will ensure that YOU will not be held responsible for any damage already existing on the vehicle. Once you have filled in the rental agreement, selected your insurance option, and we have shown you your vehicle and given you your directions, you can be on your way. However should you get down the road and find that you don't understand something or we have missed an important point, do not hesitate to call us (on the mobile provided) and we will do our best to make things right for you.
DROPPING OFF YOUR VEHICLE:
Before you return your vehicle, please make sure you have:
1. Filled both the Diesel Tank and Gas Bottle.
2. Emptied and rinsed the toilet cassette.
3. Emptied the waste water tank.
4. Taken ALL your belongings and rubbish.
5. Left the Motorhome in a tidy condition.
We do not expect you to spend any part of your holiday cleaning your motorhome but we do wish that it is left in a reasonable state so our cleaners can service the vehicle immediately. You should note that we will retain a small portion of your bond should the vehicle be in a state that is unfit. Diesel will be charged back to you at the pump rate plus 10% should we have to fill the vehicle.
